Speaker profiles

Osman Azad, Registered Respiratory Therapist, Fraser Health Authority

Previously a medical doctor, Osman Azad applied his medical knowledge and transitioned to a career as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. With over a decade of experience at Surrey Memorial Hospital, he works in all areas of the hospital, often having to resolve emergency situations. Learn about Osman’s work and his career change transition as a newcomer.

Sylvia Chang, RN, MSN, PNC(C), IBCLC

As a registered nurse in Canada, the US and Taiwan, Sylvia Chang’s career spans 2 decades and counting. Her passion is in supporting mothers, soon-to-be and new parents. Sylvia’s many hats include working in the delivery room, operating room and ER at the BC Women and Children’s Hospital as a certified perinatal nurse, advising nursing moms as a certified lactation consultant and teaching her own prenatal classes. She even started a non-profit society that organizes parent support groups which may see up to 100 people per session. Sylvia also achieved her Master degree of Science in Nursing from University of British Columbia.  Sylvia will share with you her career pathway as an internationally trained nurse.

Dr. Adrien Ip, TCM

Dr. Adrien Ip graduated with the Doctors of TCM Diploma from the International College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Vancouver, and is currently Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine licensed by the CTCMA. Having completed his internship in Taiwan, Adrien has extensive experience practicing in a hospital setting, including treating patients in the intensive care and oncology unit. Currently, Adrien holds a private practice in Vancouver and Steveston, BC, focusing on internal medicine and various complicated illnesses using a combination of both herbs and acupuncture.

Jay Patel, RPh

 

Jay Patel has more than 10 years of experience in the pharmacy field. Starting out as a pharmacist trainee in India, he is now a pharmacy manager. Having done his Bachelor of Pharmacy in India, he went through the Canadian Pharmacy Practice Program to get updated to current pharmacy practices in Canada. He enjoys working in a busy retail pharmacy environment while delivering accurate and excellent customer service to walk-in patients He believes that by keeping himself up to date with the industry allows him to better help his patients while dealing with medical clinics and hospitals. He excels through fundamental areas such as patient counseling, prescription processing, filling and compounding as well as pharmacy management.
